UNA-MN Global Classrooms Program

Global Classrooms is an innovative international education program that engages 7-12 grade students both in the classroom and in simulations involving human rights, peace and security, economic, and sustainable development issues.

The 2012 - 2013 overarching Global Classrooms topic is Poverty, with only the Macalester Conference in November focusing on Human Trafficking.

The UNA-MN Global Classrooms curriculum was designed to provide Minnesota teachers with the tools they need to educate young people about the importance of global cooperation and the role of the United Nations in the world today.  Students learn critical life skills such as negotiation, public speaking, research, writing, leadership, conflict resolutions and the responsibilities of global citizenship.

In addition to the Global Classrooms curriculum, teachers are provided with opportunities for professional development, classroom support from Model UN Trainers and international speakers through the UNA-MN Speakers Bureau

After completion of the UNA-MN Global Classrooms curriculum, students have the opportunity to participate in a Model UN Conference.  During the conferences students take the role of United Nations delegates, draft resolutions, negotiate, strategize, and formally present their country’s positions within the parameters of the U.N.’s rules of procedure.  In order to participate effectively, students must research the countries that they represent and the global issues to be addressed.
