United Nations Association of Minnesota

A Tribute to Earl W. Eames Jr.

Earl died on December 15th, 1998. Earl was a great human being; ever leading, ever encouraging, ever creating, ever inspiring, a friend, a teacher, a wonderful father and husband. We had to move quickly to keep up with Earl. He always brought out our best. This is a very sad day for Anyes, for the Eames family and for his many, many, many friends.

Earl's memorial service was held at 10:30 AM on  Friday, December 18th, Calvary Lutheran Church, 3901 Chicago Avenue S., Minneapolis

Please send any and all recollections, stories, and  photos to info@unamn.org. With your permission and as time allows, they will be posted on this web page in honor of a great man.

I think I have known no one with a deeper sense of dedication to the United Nations than Earl. He not only supported and worked for the UN; he delighted in it. He did that, I think, because he thought it possible that peoples and nations around the earth could in fact live peaceably with one another, and the best way to do that was to work with the one great world-encompassing body we have.....I also had another association with Earl. He asked me to substitute about six to eight times for him in his classes on international politics at the University of St. Thomas. This was fun. I had a chance to observe how thoughtfully he prepared his material and how respectfully he treated his students, and how in return he won their regard and
confidence....Like so many Minnesotans and supporters of the UN, I will
sorely miss him.
