Time Commitment: Part-Time (up to 10 hours per week); from February through the conference in April; available in the classroom and for conferences during the school day
Program Summary: The UNA-MN Model UN Program seeks to increase academic achievement, leadership and global citizenship skills by offering rigorous classroom curricula and by participation in UN simulations and annual Model UN Middle Spanish Conferences. Spanish Model UN is an exciting, hands-on education program serving 7th and 8th grade students in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Suburban Area Schools. Students learn about the United Nations and build skills in research, writing, public speaking and negotiation. The classroom learning culminates in a Model UN Conference, where students role-play member states to address pressing international issues. Model UN in Spanish began just a couple years ago. This program is entirely in Spanish and Native Spanish speakers are needed to help implement this program.
A Model UN Consultant is expected to: Visit participating Model UN schools and classrooms to help teachers implement the program Assist and lead as Model UN Dais committee members in one UNA-MN Model UN Spanish state Conference Attend all mandatory trainings for MUN program; Become a Model UN expert on parliamentary procedure, resolution writing, position papers, research and negotiation, and topic guides Assist with grading position papers prior to MUN conferences Assist with set up and cleanup of MUN conference
Requirements for position:
Native Spanish speaker
Be available for up to 10 hours per week to work with others and/or independently;
Have access to a car or public transportation to local schools;
Have an advanced ability to attend to details, and complete assigned tasks;
Be comfortable speaking in front of small and large audiences;
Be comfortable interacting with middle school students;
Having experience in teaching, or in Model UN as a delegate, preferred;
